WHAT IS DIRT - AN AUDIO DRAMA?
Imagine checking your mailbox one day and finding a strange letter. From someone you know couldn’t have sent it. Because the sender died 30 years ago…

Coming up on its fourth and final season, Dirt is part mystery/sci-fi thriller, part family drama, and part treasure hunt—a scripted, serialized podcast set in present-day Washington State (USA) about Joseph Elo, a popular Seattle-based tech CEO in his late 30s who one day receives a strange letter in the mail…from someone who died three decades ago. The letter offers cryptic clues about where and how to find things that were long ago buried.

As Joseph tries to unravel the mystery—with the help of his sister (Kim), his office assistant (Mel), and old acquaintances (Salvador, Maria, Antonia) who live on the east side of the Cascade mountains—he struggles to maintain balance between his newfound obsession and his work responsibilities, and ultimately has to decide what he wants to do with the rest of his life.

ABOUT THE CREATOR
Kristopher Kaiyala is the writer, director, producer, and composer of Dirt - An Audio Drama. He is a veteran features writer and editor for numerous lifestyle publications and websites, including Powder Magazine and The Ski Journal. During the day he contributes content to digital ad agencies in and around Seattle, Washington.

PODCAST INSPIRATION
While the story is 100% fiction, Dirt - An Audio Drama is largely inspired by Kris’ family history. Kris grew up traveling all over Washington and intimately knows both sides of the state: the dry eastern side and the wet western side. His grandfather was one of nine siblings raised in a Finnish-speaking household in South Aberdeen, WA, on the shores of Grays Harbor, which empties into the Pacific Ocean. Kris’ grandfather lived an adventurous life and, in his later years, wrote down many of his experiences as short stories, binding them together as Christmas gifts to family members. Many of the stories that his grandfather wrote are mentioned or paraphrased in Dirt - An Audio Drama.

RECORDING EQUIPMENT
Most of the dialogue in Dirt is recorded using a Sennheiser MKE600 microphone. Narration is recorded using a Shure KSM32 microphone. Background sounds are captured using a Zoom H5 recorder. Editing is performed in Adobe Audition. Most of the music is composed in GarageBand.
